Amantadin kann herbeiführen oder verschlimmern psychotische Symptome. Selten, Suizidversuche und Suizidgedanken haben auch berichtet worden, einige davon traten bei Patienten ohne Vorherige Geschichte der psychischen Erkrankungen, die Einnahme wurden kurze Kurse von Amantadin bei influenza. Therapie mit Amantadin gegeben werden sollte vorsichtig in Patienten mit einer Geschichte von psychiatrischen Störungen, emotionale Instabilität, oder Substanz-Missbrauch, und vor allem, wenn Sie älter sind. Es kann sein, klug zu unterlassen, die Abgabe großer Mengen von amantadine, um diese Patienten zu verhindern absichtliche überdosierung, die tödlich sein kann.
