Trizyklische und tetrazyklische Antidepressiva (TCAs) kann potenzieren die Effekte der zirkulierenden Katecholamine. Verstärkte sympathische Aktivität provozieren können hypertensive Krisen bei Patienten mit Phäochromozytom oder anderen Tumoren der Nebennieren medulla, wie einige neuroblastomas. Therapie mit TCAs sollte verabreicht werden vorsichtig bei Patienten mit diesen Tumoren.
