Die Anwendung von topischen Kortikosteroiden kann zu Niederschlag oder verschärfen die Bedingungen der nebennierenrinden-überfunktion. Die systemische absorption dieser Substanzen produzieren können reversible Hypothalamus-Hypophysen-Nebennieren-Achse Unterdrückung. Die systemische Resorption hängt vom Fahrzeug und der Konzentration der Vorbereitung, die Größe der Einsatzbereich, die Dauer der Verabreichung, und ob oder nicht okklusiven Verbänden verwendet werden. Äquivalenter Dosen, kleine Kinder sind in der Regel die größte Gefahr aufgrund Ihrer größeren Hautoberfläche zu Körpermasse-Verhältnisse. Patienten mit einer veränderten Hautbarriere oder Leber-Versagen sind ebenfalls ein erhöhtes Risiko. Wenn möglich, wird der Einsatz von hoch potenten Wirkstoffen (z.B. augmented Betamethason, clobetasol, diflorasone, und halobetasol) sollte vermieden werden, in der Kinder und beschränkt sich auf kleine Gebiete für 2 Wochen bei Erwachsenen. Die Entwicklung der Symptome wie Menstruationsstörungen, acneiform Hautveränderungen, Katarakt und cushingoide Eigenschaften bei der topischen Kortikosteroid-Therapie kann darauf hindeuten, übermäßige verwenden.
