Topische Kortikosteroide, vor allem der potente Substanzen (z.B. augmented Betamethason, clobetasol, diflorasone, und halobetasol), sind in der Regel nicht empfohlen für den Einsatz in der Behandlung von Windel Ausschlag. Topische Kortikosteroide können systemisch absorbiert, je nach Fahrzeug und Konzentration der Vorbereitung, die Größe der Einsatzbereich, die Dauer der Verabreichung, und ob oder nicht okklusiven Verbänden verwendet werden. Äquivalenter Dosen, kleine Kinder sind in der Regel auf dem höchsten Risiko für eine systemische Toxizität, wie adrenale suppression, Cushing-Syndrom und intrakranieller Hypertonie aufgrund Ihrer größeren Hautoberfläche zu Körpermasse-Verhältnisse. Wenn topische Kortikosteroide sind notwendig zur Behandlung von Windeldermatitis, Mittel - bis low-Potenz Mittel sollten vorzugsweise verwendet werden, und Eltern sollten angewiesen werden, nicht zu eng anliegende Windeln oder Kunststoff-Hose über den Ausschlag, da die Okklusion der behandelten Fläche kann die Erhöhung der perkutanen Arzneimittel-absorption.
