Einige beta-adrenerge rezeptor-Blockern (d.h., nicht-cardioselective beta-Blocker) sind kontraindiziert bei Patienten mit asthma bronchiale oder mit einer Geschichte von asthma bronchiale oder schwerer chronisch-obstruktiver Lungenerkrankung. Im Allgemeinen, beta-adrenergischer rezeptor-blocking-Agenten sollten nicht verwendet werden bei Patienten mit bronchospastic Krankheiten. Beta-blockade kann sich negativ auf die Lungenfunktion durch die Bekämpfung der Bronchodilatation produziert von Katecholamin-stimulation von beta-2-Rezeptoren. Wenn beta-blocker-Therapie ist notwendig, in diesen Patienten, ein Mittel mit beta-1-Selektivität (z.B. atenolol, metoprolol, betaxolol) als sicherer, aber sollte mit Vorsicht verwendet werden dennoch. Cardioselectivity ist nicht absolut und kann verloren gehen, mit größeren Dosen.
